The current monopole agreement with AT&T runs through March 31, 2025; the company’s outreach suggested interest in other permanent sites following plans for the new water tower that would not permit reinstallation there.
Councilors discussed practical issues including who pays to reinforce or upgrade pole structures, the visual footprint of the equipment cabinets, whether proposed sites would interfere with recreation complexes or tennis courts, and an opportunity to place equipment on a lot near the former water tower. One councilor suggested seeking pricing benchmarks from other nearby projects and consulting a local contractor experienced in telecom deployments.
Council directed staff to continue discussions with the carrier, collect detailed plans and cost estimates for pole upgrades and site work, and return with formal proposals for council consideration.
