Dellwood council approves $16,000 study to estimate costs for potential Highway 244 turnback

Council Member Greg Boosalis reported that City Engineer Cara Geheren advised the City to commission a study estimating what it would cost to improve Highway 244 if MnDOT were to turn the road back to Dellwood. Boosalis said the study by Bolton & Menk was estimated at about $16,000 and the Council unanimously approved the expenditure.
Boosalis explained the purpose is to obtain a rough estimate to determine the amount needed to bring the roadway to an acceptable condition for the City. Council Member Brady Ramsay referenced discussions with Washington County about its experience with a prior turnback of Highway 4 and said the county agreed a study is a good first step before approaching MnDOT.
Resident Mark Wisniewski asked whether a specific design for improvements had been decided; Council Member Scott St. Martin said the design would be comparable to Mahtomedi's proposed segment of Highway 244 from Tamarack Street to Dwinnell Avenue. The Council voted unanimously to fund the study by Bolton & Menk.
