Dellwood council delays decision on Highway 244 turnback pending Mahtomedi engineer input

Dellwood — The City Council on Aug. 6 discussed a proposed turnback of Highway 244 (the transfer of jurisdiction for the segment between Tamarack Street and Dwinnell Avenue) but tabled the item to the September meeting to obtain additional information from Mahtomedi.
Council members said several significant questions remained and that more technical input from Mahtomedi’s City Engineer, John Sacchi, was needed before the council could make an informed decision. City Attorney Richard W. Copeland said he would contact Mr. Sacchi to obtain the necessary information and report back at the September meeting. No vote on the substance of a turnback occurred at the Aug. 6 meeting.
The council’s discussion noted concerns about routing and feasibility, with Mayor Mike McGill remarking on possible alternative routes such as Meadow Lane and stating that Echo Street is likely infeasible because of its steep slope. The council left the matter open for further study and formal consideration at a later meeting.
