Deerwood officials report fire calls, water service line review and water tower warranty work

During department reports on Jan. 5, Fire Chief Bodle told the council the department responded to 80 fires over the year and about 230 first-responder calls; he added the department received a grant to buy ice-rescue suits.
Public Works Supervisor Patrick Radke told the council the city has no lead water service lines but does have 17 galvanized service lines; he said there is grant money available to help with repairs and that letters were sent to affected residents. Radke also requested approval to replace the public works salt-and-sand spreader, explaining the current unit — received used in 2011 — is not working and that a replacement would cost about $2,000. The council approved that purchase.
Engineer Chad Katzenberger provided an update on the water tower mixer, saying the manufacturer requested the part be pulled and returned under warranty. Katzenberger also said he is still waiting on final plans for a road project and will return to review them with the council when they are ready.
City Clerk Samantha Wodarz said she is preparing for the city audit next month and will bring any fee-waiver request for the May Outdoor and Gun Show to the council when an application is filed.
