Dawson — The Dawson City Council on April 21 voted to reallocate a budgeted $25,000 relief payment to help cover costs of repairing a city fire truck and approved several contracts and event permits.
City Manager Tyler Franzky told the council the Relief investment account appears to have sufficient funds to cover volunteer retirement obligations in 2026, and recommended reallocating the budgeted payment to address the truck repair. Councilman Jake Bothun moved to reallocate the $25,000 and Councilman Jeff Olson seconded; Olson, Vince Adelman, Bothun and Dean Petersen voted in favor. The motion passed. Franzky said the city will request yearly updates on retirement-eligible volunteers to monitor any future funding needs.
The council also authorized a contract and retainer for criminal prosecution services. Councilman Bothun moved and Olson seconded to allow Mayor J.T. Schacherer to sign the contract; the motion passed with the same recorded vote. Earlier in the meeting the minutes show a separate civil-services retainer was discussed and scheduled to commence May 1, 2026; the minutes reference Nelson Oyen & Torvick in one place and Swenson Nelson and Stulz, PLLC in another. The record does not resolve the naming discrepancy; the council authorized the criminal-prosecution contract as recorded in the minutes.
Council approved a final $1,000 restroom rental contribution to the Dawson Bank Museum for Riverfest 2026. Councilman Olson moved and Petersen seconded the motion, which passed with Olson, Adelman, Bothun and Petersen voting in favor.
The council approved a fireworks display application for Riverfest and granted a gambling permit to the Dawson Chamber. Both items passed on separate motions with unanimous support from the four members present at the vote (Olson, Adelman, Bothun and Petersen). The minutes record there was no discussion on a listed Taft Law and Tyco settlement item.
The minutes include a number of operational updates from Franzky and Public Works Superintendent Kurt Collin, including progress on the pool resurfacing, street sweeping and tree inspections, seasonal water service restorations, and phosphorus testing to meet new limits. Franzky also reported Rep. Fischbach is scheduled to tour the city duplexes on May 7.
The council set its next meeting for May 3 at 5:30 p.m.
