Eagle Lake Park Board discusses pavilion gutters, Rec on the Go changes, ballfield use and tree treatment

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the City of Eagle Lake Park Board discussed several maintenance and program items affecting parks and ballfields.
Public Works Director Andrew Hartman said his department is obtaining quotes to install gutters around the pavilion to address trip hazards and erosion concerns. Administrator Jennifer Bromeland relayed a message from Joan Back requesting consideration of a concrete slab on the pavilion’s north side for erosion control, a bench at the LeSueur park entrance, and volunteer help to clear twigs.
Staff reported they have not recently heard from MAYBA; members noted MAYBA has purchased a mower to support ballfield maintenance and that the ballfield is being used frequently. The board agreed to retain Rec on the Go for at least one event but to alter the program to better attract youth, and members suggested using some Rec on the Go funds to support city-run activities such as the golf event previously held during National Night Out.
Public Works will place wood chips in Eagle Heights Park this year; tree removal is ongoing and staff said trees around the playground need treatment for emerald ash borer with incremental replacement of removed trees, aiming to install smaller (about 6-inch) replacement trees.
Next steps: Public Works to return with gutter quotes and a plan for tree treatment and replacement; staff to follow up with MAYBA and to present revised Rec on the Go proposals at a future meeting.
