Residents urge Eagle Lake to address icy sidewalks on Agency Street (CSAH 27)

Roger and Nathan Beckel (308 and 312 Agency Street South) asked the City Council to address recurring sidewalk ice and snow on Agency Street (County State-Aid Highway 27), saying chunks of ice left after county work make sections impassable and force some people to walk in the street near the school.
The Beckels noted MnDOT provides funding to Blue Earth County for CSAH maintenance and that county budgets can allow sidewalk work; they said Blue Earth County staff told them the county lacks equipment to remove snow from sidewalks. The Beckels suggested the city consider budget changes to add equipment or staff to remove sidewalk snow, proposed using the parking lane as a temporary snow buffer during plowing operations, and asked the council to plan for furniture replacement and other facility maintenance in budget discussions.
Mayor John Whitington said the council will look into the matter but noted the city does not have the equipment to clear all sidewalks and that some suggestions may not be feasible because Agency Street is a county road.
