Eagle Lake Park Board to revive Holiday Lights contest, explores permanent pavilion lighting

The City of Eagle Lake Park Board agreed on Jan. 8 to run the Holiday Lights contest again in 2026 after members noted registration for the 2025 contest was slow.
Board members said the 2025 contest had six entries and two prize categories and discussed whether changing the prize structure could increase participation. There was consensus to hold the contest again next year and to explore ways to entice more entrants.
Board member Beth Rohrich said she will check with the Kiwanis about cost-sharing or purchasing lights to take advantage of bulk discounts. Public Works Director Andrew Hartman discussed installing permanent programmable lights at the pavilion and said he would collect pricing for the board’s next meeting.
"The pavilion is 130 feet by 30 feet," Director Andrew Hartman said, and he added that "Govee lights are the best and 200 feet costs about $600, we would need two sets of lights." Hartman said he would get formal pricing so the board could consider installation in the summer; discussion also included lighting City Hall.
Next steps: Beth Rohrich will check with Kiwanis; Director Hartman will present pricing at the next meeting. The board did not record formal budget approvals at the Jan. 8 meeting.
