Dexter council approves charity bingo permit, accepts minutes and hears community building question

The Dexter City Council on Feb. 2, 2026 approved a permit for the Dexter Community Club to hold charitable gambling (community bingo) at the fire hall on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Council member Tim Taylor moved to approve the permit and Council member Diane O'Connor seconded; the motion passed with all yeas.
The council also unanimously accepted the December minutes and financial statements and authorized the clerk to pay January bills after a motion by Diane O'Connor and a second by Christian Padilla.
City clerk Natalie Carroll updated the council on bid specifications for a planned tower reconstruction project; the minutes do not contain dollar amounts, bid dates or a procurement schedule.
Council member Christian Padilla relayed that a resident asked about using the community building and opening one of the fire bays for a retirement party. Acting Mayor Casey Erwin said the fire department "does not typically allow for that this time of year primarily due to lack of storage for the fire trucks during an event" and suggested Padilla consult the fire department about the request.
Padilla moved to adjourn the meeting, O'Connor seconded, and the minutes record that the motion carried and the meeting was adjourned. Natalie Carroll attested to the minutes.
