Park board discusses Emerald Ash Borer treatment, tree removal pricing and a proposed walking trail

Public Works Director Andrew Hartman told the Park Board that staff consulted Melchoir’s Tree Service about ash trees near the playground and that recommendations include treating existing trees for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and planting replacements to reestablish shade. Hartman said Public Works will monitor hazardous branches and bring pricing for any necessary tree removal to the April meeting.
Hartman also reported ongoing creek cleanup to maintain safety and usability and proposed clearing a walking trail around the creek to improve public access and facilitate maintenance. The board discussed installing no-parking signs near the pavilion and painting no-parking or ADA-only markings on hard surfaces to improve accessibility.
No formal vote occurred on the tree work, trail clearing or signage; the items were set for follow-up pricing and further consideration at the April meeting.
