Contested Lake Links trail route prompts calls for resident input in Dellwood

The Dellwood City Council and residents discussed routing for the Lake Links trail along State Highway 244 at the Nov. 12 meeting, with the White Bear Yacht Club opposing a trail routed along the easterly side near the club's golf-house facility.
Councilmember Greg Boosalis told the council the club appears firmly opposed to that proposed route. John Carr of the Lake Links Trail Association said he was not sure whether a definitive survey of the Hwy 244 ROW through Dellwood exists. City Attorney Richard Copeland said he has attempted to obtain ROW surveys for years and that some private-lot surveys have shown a 33-foot ROW in places.
Julie Whitaker and Dr. Phoebe Leonard said residents expected a mailing soliciting comments. City Planner Nate Sparks confirmed earlier remarks that the City would not maintain a trail along Hwy 244. The council agreed that Cara Geherens recent report on the trail should be posted to the city website, and asked the clerk to prepare a residents-only notice and to consider forming a citizens' committee to host public discussion and collect comments online.
Next steps: The city will publish the planner's report and prepare a residents-only notice; the council did not adopt a route at the meeting.
