Deephaven council awards $62,559.60 contract to replace failed storm sewer on Minnetonka Boulevard

Deephaven — The City Council voted unanimously May 18 to award a contract to Astech for $62,559.60 to replace a deteriorated storm sewer beneath Minnetonka Boulevard that failed and caused a sinkhole near Sibley Avenue.
City Engineer Steve Hegland told the Council the existing pipe could not be repaired through lining and must be replaced. The project will require temporary traffic impacts and the removal of a small number of trees near the work area. Council voted to authorize staff to remove trees under the city’s current tree-removal contract up to $8,000. Funding for the work will come from the stormwater fund.
The motion to recommend the award was made by Councilmember John Studer and seconded by Councilmember Tom Erdmann; the motion carried 4-0 (Mayor Pro Tem Emily Scherschligt and Councilmembers Jewett, Studer and Erdmann). Construction procurement documents and scheduling will be handled by staff and the city engineer.
