Park board recommends moving forward with phase 1 of pickleball courts

Planning and Zoning Administrator Scott Kochendorfer told the board a completed topographic survey — paid for by the local pickleball club — identifies site contours, minor tree-clearing needs and options for parking and access. He said recycled materials from upcoming road projects may be available for fill and that the initial phase is intended to keep costs low.
Council Rep Adam Bisbee and other board members discussed partnership models. Kochendorfer said staff expect the arrangement to resemble the dog-park agreement used previously: a formal lease or agreement with the club covering most financial obligations, with potential grant support such as IRRRB funds and some in-kind city services.
Jill Swanson moved that the board recommend proceeding with phase 1 as presented; Tara Boerst seconded and the motion carried without objection.
Board members noted the design intentionally allows the courts to be converted to basketball or tennis in the future if community needs change. The recommendation now goes to the City Council for final approval and any required lease or agreement drafting.
Actions: The board recorded a recommendation that the council approve phase 1 of the pickleball project; the motion was moved by Jill Swanson and seconded by Tara Boerst and carried without objection.
