Board members hear updates on skating rinks, dog-park sign and delayed pickleball project

Kochendorfer update: Scott Kochendorfer, Planning and Zoning Administrator and the meeting secretary, said outdoor skating rinks will most likely need to be closed during the warmup period. He also relayed that the Ely Dog Park has expressed interest in placing an informational sign at the Trezona Trail off Miners Drive.
Pickleball and grants: Kochendorfer said the city’s proposed pickleball project is on hold while brush clearing is completed in the area identified for courts. He added that most grants relevant to the project will not be available until summer, delaying any funding-dependent work.
Community trails: Community member Ozie Reif shared information about potential walking trails behind the Trailhead and proposed organizing a 'Trail Group Meeting' to bring together local trail groups; Reif said more details are expected this summer. Board members indicated those items can be discussed further when a quorum is available.
What’s next: No votes or official decisions were made. The board adjourned at 6:02 PM and will meet next on March 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM in the Ely City Hall Council Chambers.
