Eagle Lake approves purchase and easement from Regency for pedestrian trail; flashing beacon planned

The Eagle Lake City Council approved an offer to purchase and statement of compensation for property needed to construct a pedestrian trail connecting to Agency Street, authorizing payment of $24,800 for right-of-way costs and acquisition of permanent and temporary easements.
Administrator Jennifer Bromeland told the council the corridor was identified in a 2022 pedestrian connectivity study funded by the Mankato Area Planning Organization; state and federal grants have been secured to support the project. City staff and representatives from Regency met and indicated Regency is agreeable to the proposed terms. As part of the project the city will install a privacy fence along the west side of Regency and assume mowing responsibility for the ditch fronting the property.
The project will include a flashing beacon at the Agency Street and Thomas Drive crossing. Bromeland said anticipated construction start is late summer or early fall, with trail paving possibly occurring in 2027; because federal funding is involved the DNR-required completion deadline next summer will be written into the contract. The council approved the acquisition and compensation by unanimous vote.
