The council approved Budget Option A, a $77,800 project that pairs MAAC asbestos-tile removal and disposal with H2I Group’s poured five-layer sport floor priced at $60,000. The poured floor carries a 25-year warranty and was described in the meeting minutes as a higher-quality, longer-lasting product. The asbestos-abatement estimate for tile removal alone was $17,800; MAAC’s quoted cost with mastic grinding was $25,300 and AbateTek quoted $27,500.
Councilmembers considered two budget scenarios before the vote. Budget Option A relies on a mix of funding: $32,500 from the City 2026 budget, $5,300 from City Hall savings, a $10,000 pledged donation from a local pickleball group, and a $30,000 Sourcewell grant if awarded. Budget Option B combined MAAC tile and mastic removal with MCI Carpet One’s narrow vinyl roll flooring for a lower project total of $58,895 but included a shorter warranty and installation with more seams.
Mayor Tracy Jones moved to adopt the amended resolution to request a $30,000 Sourcewell grant for the Option A project total of $77,800; Councilmember Andrew Hemphill seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Jones, Brennan, Hanson, Hemphill and Koch as voting aye and the motion carried 5-0.
The minutes note the previous resolution amount was inconsistent with the current grant submission figures, prompting the amended resolution and the council acted with the Sourcewell application deadline the following day. With the vote complete, staff were authorized to proceed with the grant submission; the project remains contingent on receipt of the Sourcewell award and any required follow-up.
