Fairgrounds coordinator Hallie Sewell reported to the Fairgrounds Committee on June 4 that the recent Food Truck-A-Palooza drew strong attendance and was paid for by sponsors rather than city funds.
"We had 35 trucks, 48 vendors who took up, I think, 55 spots," Sewell said, adding, "We estimate over 5,000 people were in attendance throughout the day." Sewell said four trucks sold out and volunteers and sponsors made the event possible.
Sewell emphasized the event was "100% sponsored" and did not come from taxpayer money. She reported the ATM on site handled about $8,800 during the event and noted spillover economic activity such as lines at nearby businesses.
Sewell said organizers plan to hold the event next year on Saturday, May 15, and that staff are working on a new strategy for waste and restroom upkeep during the day.
The committee voted to place the monthly report on file; no policy or funding changes were proposed.
