The Merrill Health and Safety Committee approved a series of routine items at its May 26 meeting, including minutes, vouchers, multiple temporary Class B beer licenses and the 2026–2027 liquor and beer license applications.
The committee approved minutes from the April 27 meeting after a motion and second. Members then moved to approve the monthly vouchers following questions about line items, including a DOT registration suspension fee listed at $40 and a small state processing fee. The Chair called a voice vote and the vouchers passed.
The committee passed temporary Class B picnic licenses for three youth-related organizers: the Merrill Youth Hardball Association for May 29–31 at Athletic Park, Otts Park and Lions Park; Merrill Youth Softball (Fastpitch) for multiple dates through summer 2026 and state tournament dates; and MHS Baseball Boosters for multiple summer dates at Athletic Park. Police staff noted parking crowding during past tournaments and said the city has a parking plan and may schedule extra officer overtime as needed.
The committee also approved an extension of premises for Ballyhoo's (listed in the agenda as Valley Hoos/Ballyhoo's) on May 30 to allow patrons to carry alcohol outside into the street/park area; police advised barricade placement and discussed whether a fence or additional private security should be recommended to the common council.
Finally, members approved the listed 2026–2027 liquor and beer license applications. Several minor administrative cleanup items were noted by staff and expected to be resolved before final issuance. The committee then moved to place monthly reports on file and adjourned; the next meeting was set for Monday, June 22 at 5:15 p.m.
