Deerwood council weighs online payment options after late-payment penalties reported

City Clerk Samantha Wodarz briefed the Deerwood City Council on the city’s Allpaid online payment system during the March 2 meeting, saying processing timing has led to a few residents receiving late penalties when payments were made on the due date.
"There is a processing time between the time the payment is made and when the city receives the payment," Clerk Samantha Wodarz said. The clerk said the city currently pays no fee for Allpaid, that roughly 25 customers use the system for utility bills, and that the lowest alternative quote she had received included a $1,500 annual fee plus processing charges.
Council members discussed cost versus benefit and directed the clerk to continue researching possible payment processors; no change to policy or vendor selection was recorded at the meeting.
