Early to recoat water tower interior and continue well testing after clear initial sample

Public works told the council it will contract with MacGuire Iron to recoat the interior of the city water tower this spring and that initial sampling of a nearby well returned clear; the council authorized continued (more expensive) testing of that well.
Kris Alesch, Public Works Director, told the Early City Council on Jan. 7 that the city plans to work with MacGuire Iron to recoat the interior of the municipal water tower this spring and is pursuing additional testing on a well east of the water treatment facility.
Alesch said Landus conducted the first sampling of the well and the initial test “came back all clear.” He informed the council that further testing would incur greater costs and asked whether to proceed; the council agreed to continue testing services to determine whether the well is a viable water source.
Alesch’s report also included the planned water-tower recoating; the council did not set a contract award or dollar amount at the meeting, but the public works director indicated the work would occur in spring and that the city will plan to coordinate with MacGuire Iron.
No timeline for final testing results or budget appropriation for the recoating work was announced in the minutes; the clerk or public works department is responsible for follow-up and any contracting actions necessary to perform the work.
