Council takes no action on MVCSD water fee waiver request; declines to pursue preemptive data-center rules

The Mount Vernon Community School District asked the council at the May 4 meeting to waive a $4,000 water connection fee for a two-inch meter installation at the James W. Bellamy Team Room. City Administrator Nosbisch explained that waiving the fee would shift revenue burdens to other citizens and that the fee has not been waived while he has served the city. Council discussed fairness and precedent and ultimately took no action on the request.
Separately, council members and staff discussed the prospect of data centers in Mount Vernon. Nosbisch told the council the city’s wells are relatively shallow and Mount Vernon does not currently have sufficient water capacity to meet the needs of a data center without installing additional wells and water towers. No formal application from a data-center developer is on file; the council expressed a consensus not to pursue additional ordinances or code language preemptively at this time.
