The Mount Vernon City Council on April 6 approved several equipment and service items intended to support facilities and operations.
The council approved Aquatic Control Proposal #447184 (not to exceed $6,540) for annual aquatic herbicide treatment of Quarry Pond; staff said the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa State Extension recommended treatment because invasive vegetation cannot be fully eradicated in a single application.
Council authorized a three-year cardio-equipment lease for the LBC with Johnson Fitness for $91,265 and approved a separate purchase of a SkiErg for $13,995 (shipping, delivery and maintenance). Staff recommended excluding preventive maintenance and warranty from the lease and paying those costs separately.
To address vehicle needs, council approved purchase of a used dump truck for up to $75,000; staff noted a new unit would carry a roughly $150,000 sticker price and about a one-year build time. The council approved RC Tech’s proposal to install a cell signal booster at the Bryant Road Public Works facility for $3,085.11, citing insufficient indoor cell coverage as an operational and emergency concern.
All motions were approved by the council as recorded in the minutes.
