Shelby City Council approves $360,554 maximum property tax request, sets March budget hearing

The Shelby City Council on Feb. 7, 2023 adopted a resolution setting the city's FY2023-24 maximum property tax dollars at $360,554 and scheduled a public budget hearing for March 7, 2023.
Councilmember Karen Schlueter moved to approve Resolution #21723, which sets the maximum property tax dollars requested for fiscal year 2023-2024 at $360,554.00; Councilmember Chris Evans seconded the motion. The measure passed on a roll-call vote with Councilmembers Chris Evans, Rick Kiesel, Jackie Hursey and Karen Schlueter voting yes (Pat Honeywell was absent). Mayor Ron Kroll asked whether any conflicts of interest existed; none were declared.
In the same meeting the council also set the FY2023-24 budget hearing date. Councilmember Rick Kiesel moved to schedule the hearing for March 7, 2023; Councilmember Jackie Hursey seconded and the motion passed by roll call.
The council approved a construction change order and an engineering amendment related to a city project. On motion by Schlueter and second by Evans the council approved Rieschick Change Order #06 for $119,350.00 and a V&K Engineers amendment for $23,900; both approvals were noted as subject to USDA approval.
Also on the consent agenda, the council approved minutes (01/03/2023 and 01/17/2023), payment of bills and the treasurer's report, and approved a liquor license for Love's. The council approved a housing application for Allen and Beth Walker, contingent on bank approval.
The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:28 p.m. City Clerk Chris Martin and Mayor Ron Kroll signed the minutes.
