Transportation coordinator updates commissioners on transit plan, micro-transit grant loss and CTGP renewal

Nick Alonzo told commissioners his role as community transportation coordinator is winding toward a June 30 contract end and that a key deliverable is a transition plan focused on seniors, people with disabilities and low-income families. He asked commissioners for sites and organizations to target for surveys and outreach (elder housing complexes, senior centers and other community hubs).
Alonzo said the larger micro-transit grant applied for in November was not awarded, but he reported success with a smaller community transit grant (CTGP) that will fund another year of work. He said MassDOT acknowledged the need in Lynn but is prioritizing rural and regional micro-transit programs; staff followed up with contacts at MassDOT and were connected to a regional micro-transit director in another county to learn a scaled approach that began from Council on Aging vehicle use.
Commissioners discussed outreach strategies, including visiting affordable housing complexes and senior sites, and asked how to capture residents who do not respond to surveys. Alonzo said in-person sign-ups and targeted visits have produced good results at some locations. He asked members to forward suggestions by email so he can incorporate them into the transition plan and next steps for the program.
No formal decisions were made; commissioners agreed to provide outreach lists and to revisit transit priorities as staff develops the transition document.
