Tanya, a senior center staff member presenting the director’s report, outlined the senior center’s May calendar at the April 22 Council on Aging meeting, noting regular clubs, craft sessions and several one‑off trips and presentations.
"I will report on May's programming to begin with upcoming activities and services," Tanya said as she listed events: seasonal crafts on May 1 and 15; the senior supper club (bingo in May); bi‑weekly club meetings; trivia on Tuesdays at 12:30; adult coloring with music on Thursdays; and a movie day on Thursday, May 28. She also described grant‑funded offerings including chair yoga (Tuesdays), meditation with Ron (now at 11:00) and a tech‑lab 'learning with Larry' class on Fridays.
The center has scheduled several outings and presentations: a community trip to the Loft Thrift Store in Lynn (May 1), a Cinco de Mayo lunch at La Copa (May 5), a trip to Tiptop Tulips in Ipswich (May 7) when the tulips are expected to be in bloom, and a casino trip later in May. Presentations tied to Stroke Awareness Month will be delivered by Salem Hospital and the city's public health department; Wind Rush Farms from North Andover will give an interactive program for people with disabilities.
Tanya and Diana provided a brief accounting for the March 15–April 15 reporting period. Diana said general office and operations spending included supplies, kitchen and tech purchases, printer maintenance, Verizon and vendor fees, with line items such as senior center software membership. Reported figures: general office/operations and small professional expenditures totaled approximately $1,420.28; operations items (kitchen, tech, membership fees) totaled $4,578.99; and spending from three active grants (MCOA, Title III and Food Phoenix) totaled $6,529.37.
Board members asked staff to send the detailed numbers for the minutes. "I'll make a note of that," Tanya replied, and staff confirmed they would email the figures during the meeting.
Staff also reviewed on‑site services that will continue in May, including three times weekly nursing visits from the public health department (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), a community care van visit (May 21), Lintech beauty services (May 14) and regular case management support.
The reported program mix and grant funding are intended to broaden activity options and sustain key services; staff emphasized outreach and space utilization as the second floor opens to more regular use.
