River Hills outlines plan to remove pool, build sensory room; sets ESY and autism training dates

Kelsey Baker, a River Hills staff member, outlined a five-year building plan at the consortium meeting May 1 that calls for removing the facility pool and constructing a new sensory room to support students with special needs.
Baker said fundraising is ongoing and that secured supporters include the Black Hawk Gaming Association, River Hills Foundation, McElroy Foundation and the Pauline Barrett Family Foundation. She noted the sensory room would likely be built and funded in phases as contributions are secured.
The consortium also confirmed Extended School Year services for eligible students on July 8–11 and July 14–18, 2025, running 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; staff reported that all districts with eligible students were notified and confirmations were returned. Baker announced a five-day autism training Aug. 4–8, 2025 in Cedar Falls that will include two in-person sessions and virtual River Hills Learning Labs during the 2025–26 school year.
Baker closed by communicating a standing invitation for superintendents and their board members to visit River Hills or view an overview presentation. Next consortium meeting is scheduled for Fall 2025.
