Board rejects adding citizen member to UW‑Extension committee but adopts shoreland building‑height clarification

Robb Jensen and proponents argued a citizen member could provide agricultural or water‑quality expertise and public perspective; opponents, including Supervisor Dan Hess and Supervisor Ted Cushing, opposed adding citizen members unless state law requires it. The roll‑call vote on the UW‑Extension committee amendment was 4 Aye, 15 Nay, 1 Absent and 1 Vacancy, and the measure failed.
Separately, Planning and Zoning Director Karl Jennrich presented an amendment to the Chapter 9 shoreland ordinance clarifying how to measure building height for structures beyond 75 feet from the OHWM and how to treat structures that straddle the 75‑foot setback. Supervisors approved a technical amendment to add language about straddling structures and then adopted the amended ordinance by roll call (19 Aye; 1 Absent).
The minutes record debate and votes; the failed committee composition amendment returns the committee membership to its prior structure, while the shoreland amendment updates local definitions consistent with county discretion beyond the DNR‑defined 75‑foot zone.
