School Committee ratifies membership of superintendent search committee

The Malden School Committee voted unanimously on March 4 to ratify the proposed membership for the superintendent search committee.
Ms. Spadafora presented the selection process and said more than 30 staff and more than 30 caregivers volunteered; she and Ms. Rose‑Zeiberg described a process intended to produce broad demographic and school‑level representation. The ratified membership includes School Committee representatives Jennifer Spadafora and Sharyn Rose‑Zeiberg; a principal representative, Adam Weldai (Forestdale School); an assistant principal representative, Jane Wright (Salemwood School); Unit A representatives Todd Cole (Malden High School), Sonia Miller (Linden School) and Dr. Brian Sheehan (Salemwood School); Unit B representatives Cara Hovhanessian (STEM Director K‑5) and Stephanie Scalese (Special Education Program Manager); Unit C representatives Sammantha Dorazio (substitute school nurse) and Dawn Marie O'Toole (Beebe ESP); parent/caregiver representatives Ashanafi Befekadu, Joshua Gold, and Heather Segal; SEPAC advisor Amanda Ceide; and student representative Meklit “Meki” Abel.
Ms. Spadafora said the next steps include an orientation meeting, focus groups and public forums as the search proceeds.
What happens next: the search committee will be oriented and will run focus groups and forums as part of the superintendent search process.
