Coventry commission notes budget cut: no summer helper; sexton salary line increased
Summary
Town and commission staff reported that budget cuts eliminated the summer helper position this year while the budget for the sexton’s salary is planned to increase next year; a financial update will be provided by Stacy and reviewed by Chair Kevin Arpin.
Town staff told the Coventry Cemetery Commission June 18 that the town will not hire a summer helper this year because of budget cuts, and that the budget line for the sexton’s salary is planned to increase in next year’s budget.
Public Works Director William Watkins reported the change, saying the summer helper position was eliminated during budget decisions and that the sexton salary line received an increase for the upcoming fiscal year. Sexton Rich Mindek reported routine interment and administrative activity but did not raise an alternative staffing plan at the meeting.
Chair Kevin Arpin said he will review the financial documentation Stacy will provide and will share that information with the commission. No formal motion or vote on staffing or salary changes was recorded at the meeting; the items were reported as updates to the commission.
