Subcommittee considers AI summer program and records donations, meeting schedule

The subcommittee discussed a possible summer Artificial Intelligence program (link to InspiritAI was shared) and noted that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has an Office of Educational Tech AI roadmap and task force working on guidance, curriculum and student data privacy resources. Members agreed to defer vetting the program to Joe Sposato and Renee to determine district suitability.
Members also reviewed a proposed subcommittee function statement that emphasizes collaboration with staff, parents and students, advocating for equitable access to technology and evaluating its impacts on student learning. Al Ganem reported that Berlin Insurance donated computer monitors; Ganem and Sposato said they would post the donation on the full School Committee agenda for Sept. 9. The subcommittee discussed setting monthly meetings (one week after the full committee); tentative future meeting dates were Oct. 21 and Dec. 16, 2025, and Ganem requested future meetings be at 1:15–2:15 p.m. via Zoom to support staff attendance.
Next steps: Sposato and Renee will review the InspiritAI proposal for possible district use; the donation will be posted on the full committee agenda; the subcommittee will attempt a regular monthly schedule following the full committee calendar.
