Berlin-Boylston committee approves revised $24.4 million FY26 budget, adjusts town assessments

BERLIN and BOYLSTON, Mass. — The Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee voted unanimously April 17 to adopt a revised fiscal year 2026 operating budget of $24,413,390 and a debt and capital budget of $2,106,825, with adjusted assessments of $9,235,575 to the Town of Berlin and $13,622,632 to the Town of Boylston.
Aaron Osborne, director of finance and operations, told the committee both towns had identified additional funds but from different categories: Boylston offered $50,000 in additional operating funds and had treated Tahanto capital costs as operating, while Berlin had $77,092 available in additional capital funding and considered Tahanto capital needs part of its capital assessment. Osborne said he collaborated with administrators and the interim superintendent to allocate those sums consistent with each town’s restrictions.
Osborne described an increase to Boylston Elementary’s operating assessment of $44,417, with $5,583 remaining allocated to Tahanto capital. He outlined five immediate needs for Berlin Elementary totaling $311,000 (an increase of $74,000) and said $3,092 of the Berlin funds would be applied to Tahanto capital; he also said some of the additional capital would be used for middle-school furniture at Tahanto. The committee reviewed the slides summarizing the updated operating and capital assessments before voting.
Mrs. Meagan Grill, vice chair, moved approval of the revised FY26 operating and debt & capital budgets; Mrs. Lisa Mair seconded. A roll-call vote recorded all five committee members in favor (5-0), and the motion passed. Osborne closed by thanking the towns of Berlin and Boylston for their support in identifying the additional resources.
After completing the budget vote, Mrs. Meagan Grill moved to adjourn; Mrs. Jessica Deglialberti seconded. The committee took roll call and approved the motion (4-0). The meeting adjourned at 12:13 p.m.
