The sheriff reported a 39% clearance rate for Group A offenses (23 offenses, three arrests) and a 72% clearance rate for Group B offenses (32 offenses, 24 arrests), yielding an overall clearance rate of 58%. The jail booked 95 inmates in May, increasing the average daily population to 98 for the month and a year-to-date average of about 94.2.
The sheriff also reported staffing vacancies: five vacancies in the jail division and 11 vacancies in the law enforcement division (with five of those now in the academy or field-training programs). Traffic enforcement activity increased, with citations rising and motor-vehicle crashes up to 42 for the month; deputies reported a crash cluster near FM 2502 and FM 389 in the Green Vine area on the western side of the county.
Other statistics included an increase in arrested warrants served (from 52 to 77) and an uptick in reckless-driver calls. The sheriff noted city partner Brenham Police Department booked 70 inmates—more than double its previous month—attributed to local initiatives and enforcement efforts.
