County accepts $350,000 rural ambulance grant and approves procurement steps for remount and upfitting

A finance presenter told the court the grant arrived through the comptroller and was not budgeted when the county filed the previous year’s budget. The presenter said the county qualified for the $350,000 because its population falls in the statutorily defined range for the program and that the court needed to amend revenue and expenditure lines to use the funds.
"I make a motion to approve the $350,000 in unexpected grant revenue from the Texas Rural Ambulance Service Grant Program and approve the associated budget amendment for expenditure," a commissioner moved; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The grant acceptance was followed by a separate motion to authorize the purchase process for an ambulance remount and all necessary upfitting from the rural ambulance service fund. Staff cited House Bill 3000 as the enabling authority for purchasing ambulances and related accessories for eligible rural counties. The court approved starting solicitation of bids and issuing purchase orders to use the awarded funds.
Separately, the accounts-payable list presented later included $142,752 charged to capital projects for two new ambulances; the court approved accounts payable in that amount as part of the broader payments docket.
The court did not record roll-call tallies for these votes; motions were approved by voice. Staff will proceed with procurement steps and return required contract documents and awards to the court for final approvals.
