Holmen School District to pursue concurrent-enrollment partnership with Winona State University for communications and precalculus credit

Holmen School District staff presented a new concurrent-enrollment opportunity with Winona State University on June 22 that would allow students to earn both high-school and college credit for two courses.
Kim Edwards said Winona State is offering CMST 192 (Introduction to Effective Communication, aligned with the district advanced oral-communications course) and Math 120 (Precalculus) for dual credit at a reduced cost. "They have two courses that align pretty nicely with some of ours on campus," Edwards said.
Board members asked how many students take Winona State courses and what the family cost would be. Edwards said Winona charges by section and the district will work with its business office to set a standardized per-student fee. She compared the likely cost to existing University of Wisconsin concurrent-enrollment offerings, which she said typically run about $115 per credit, and noted Winona’s per-student approach should be comparable if not less.
Edwards said the proposed agreement will be placed on the July 13 consent agenda for board action once final business-office details are set.
