Road commissioner reports paving and grading work; town to pursue DOT and DCR grant approvals

Road Commissioner Keith Lacasse reported base material and surface work between Greylock and Roys Roads, plans to blacktop apron transitions, and pending panels for the fire station addition. The town will submit an MA DOT grant by Jan. 9 and pursue DCR approval for a Sugarloaf Trail pull-off plan.
Road Commissioner Keith Lacasse told the Select Board on Nov. 18 that crews brought four loads of base material and applied three inches of base and three inches of top to reestablish ditches between Greylock and Roys Roads.
"He will add fill along the sides of the roads wherever it is needed," the board was told. Lacasse said apron transitions to dirt driveways were filled with gravel and he will blacktop a few places where the road meets asphalt driveways and add a berm. He reported Eversource has not removed wood left from tree work near power lines and said he is waiting for two panels to finish the fire-station addition; he plans to use material from the salt shed to level the site and will frame the door once the panels arrive. An electrician must be contacted to move wires.
Ken McInerney said he will submit the Massachusetts DOT grant application by Jan. 9. Separately, Ken, Keith and Max Lacasse met with Mackenzie Greer from the Department of Conservation and Recreation on Nov. 7; Ken will ask DCR to permit a pull-off plan at the Sugarloaf Trailhead so cars can be kept off the road. Ken said DCR approval is required by September to meet the grant timeline.
The board also praised improved salt application and noted the resident sand shed is filled.
