Middlefield wetlands agency reviews enforcement cases, hears small budget cut and notes retirement

During the March 18 meeting the Middlefield Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency received its enforcement officer's report. The officer said hay bales or a similar temporary measure should be placed around the catch basin at 43 Lake Shore Drive until the area is stabilized. The officer also reported that attic work at 74 Lake Shore Drive requires ADU approval but posed no inland-wetlands concern. Commissioners discussed a lack of response from a homeowner on High Street and the need to clarify who will complete future meeting minutes.
Separately, the First Selectman presented a proposed small decrease in the Inland Wetlands Commission's budget. Commissioners noted major projects are underway and planned further discussion with the Board of Selectmen.
The board also acknowledged the retirement of Jim Brown from the commission and thanked him for his service; members discussed beginning recruitment for alternates.
