New Ashford MLP adopts municipal‑lien provisions; Whip City outage credited

On Sept. 8 the New Ashford Municipal Light Plant (MLP) voted to adopt the municipal‑lien provisions of Massachusetts General Laws c.164, §§58B–58F, and the Select Board recorded related broadband business updates.
Mark Phelps moved that the MLP adopt those statutory provisions to permit municipal liens for unpaid utility charges; the motion was seconded by Ken McInerney and passed unanimously. The MLP will consult legal counsel to determine whether the adoption can be effective retroactively and will register the action as required.
Ken McInerney reported on a recent outage at One Federal that affected five Whip City towns; the town received a credit for the outage. He said he had met with Andrew Short from Whip City to discuss Dig Safe coordination and conduit registration for the church connections. Whip City is testing high‑speed internet service to 2 Gbps down and 1.25 Gbps up.
The MLP also discussed municipal‑liens law mechanics and next steps for registering the adoption with counsel; no specific lien actions were taken at the meeting.
