New Ashford sets Oct. 20 special town meeting to consider church repairs, mapping and related bills

Select Board Chair Jason Jayko told the board that a draft warrant for a Special Town Meeting (STM) on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. includes articles for unpaid door installation bills for the church, fire station and town hall, a 5% town match for church repairs, mapping work for the church, a propane tank hookup for the church, and accounting software charges that were billed after the fiscal year ended.
Select Board member Mark Phelps and resident Ed Grosso reported the town needs drawings to move engineering work forward for proposed church repairs. Contractor Scalise quoted a fly-over and floor-plan mapping cost estimated at $5,000$6,000; the board discussed a potential lower-cost option estimated at $3,500$4,500. The board agreed to add mapping to the STM warrant and Chair Jayko said he will send the edited warrant to legal counsel for review.
The STM will allow voters to decide whether to authorize funding and the 5% local match for repairs and to approve other warrant articles. The board signed the warrant during the meeting and set the next regular meeting for Oct. 8.
