During committee reports at the Jan. 9 meeting, Board member Terry Cote told the Board that EastConn will implement a mid-year 15% increase to special-education program rates, followed by an additional 5% increase in 2025-26. The Board received that notice as part of committee updates and will consider the budgetary effect as it reviews the 2025-26 budget.
The Scholarship Steering Committee noted that the Ethel Cushing Gardner Music Scholarship application deadline is Feb. 4; the announcement is posted on the district website and will appear in the Feb. 1 Communicator. The Long Range Facilities Committee provided minutes of its Dec. 12 meeting and reported it had approved its long-range plan.
On high-school options, Superintendent Dr. Donna Leake said she spoke with Christopher Sandford, head of The Woodstock Academy, who indicated he would attend a Board meeting to present the Academy's program offerings; the Board agreed to extend an invitation.
Director of Pupil Services Charles Kernan did not provide a written report but addressed questions raised at the previous meeting, according to the minutes. The Board received the Principal's written report covering field trips (including virtual trips), the Readiness Program and council update, student-progress data and upcoming events.
