NECCOG coordinates with CT DOT on active-transportation tours; Safe Streets task force and automated enforcement noted

NECCOG will meet CT DOT on May 7 for regional tours to review pedestrian and bicycle concerns; staff reported the Safe Streets for ALL task force convened April 24 and that towns are exploring Automated Traffic Enforcement under Public Act 23-116.
NECCOG staff told the council on April 25 that the region will coordinate with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) on May 7 for site tours aimed at identifying pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements on state roadways.
Staff also reported the first Safe Streets for ALL Task Force meeting was held April 24 and that public meetings are scheduled to begin in June; NECCOG is seeking more participation from bicycle and motorcycle groups. Separately, several towns have expressed interest in Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices as authorized under Public Act No. 23‑116; staff clarified these devices issue non-criminal citations intended as a deterrent and stated they do not affect insurance.
The council recorded frustrations from member towns about perceived lack of DOT support for road signage and accident-prevention assistance during the CEO Roundtable. NECCOG staff said they will continue coordination with CT DOT and pursue outreach for the Safe Streets public meetings.
