Damage and operations: Initial walk-throughs by the superintendent and committee members found the water and smoke damage largely contained to dressing-room and ceiling areas, with minimal impact to the gym floor itself. The administration said it hopes to reopen athletic space "by next week" but stressed the timeline depends on the investigative findings and any remediation required under the floor or under bleachers.
Parents and committee members praised staff and emergency responders for orderly evacuations, sheltering, and maintaining calm among students. Dr. Thompson said the district's priority is student safety and accounting; he asked the public to rely on official district communications rather than social media for final details.
