Adrina O'Brien, a first-grade teacher and the director of Falcon Discovery Camp, briefed the Mashpee School Committee on this summer's program, which served 119 students in kindergarten through rising seventh grade.
"We had arts and crafts, gardening, digital art and animation, sports and more," O'Brien said, describing a program structured so campers chose two sessions each day. She noted transportation and daily snacks were provided and that the program ran in four weekly sessions.
O'Brien said the camp involved 119 students this year, close to last year's 123. She highlighted the gardening club: "All the food that was grown got donated," she said, adding that parents signed up via QR code and that instructional staff included classroom teachers and paraprofessionals.
Student volunteer Tess answered committee questions about favorite activities and suggested new clubs such as chess and soccer. Committee members praised the staff and asked for more detail on grade distribution, which O'Brien said skewed younger but was similar to previous years.
The committee did not take any formal action on the report. Members encouraged organizers to consider air-conditioning needs and to continue outreach to older students to broaden participation.
