Superintendent: blasting underway at Green Meadow; high school picks up state and AP honors

Superintendent Brian told the Maynard School Committee that blasting at the Green Meadow school project began this week and that the district is notifying residents who sign up for alerts 10 minutes before a blast. He said building-committee meetings continue and the administration is working to keep the public informed when blasts are rescheduled.
On academics, Principal York reported the high school received three recognitions: DESE school-of-recognition status, a 10-year accreditation letter from NEASC and silver status on the College Board’s AP Honor Roll. Brian and York said the honors reflect improved MCAS performance, rising attendance and stronger graduation rates.
Committee members raised questions about indoor air quality during blasting; staff confirmed portable air-purification units are in classrooms and filters are changed regularly but said point-in-time air-quality testing in classrooms or outdoor play areas had not been reported. Superintendent Brian agreed to collect questions submitted by families and, where useful, publish FAQs and monitoring information specific to Green Meadow families.
No formal vote was taken. Administrators said they will continue outreach about blast schedules and follow up with data or FAQs on air-quality monitoring if families request them.
