The committee discussed timing, funding and outreach for a planned bleacher and field project that will appear on a future warrant.
Members said the bleacher project will require careful coordination with the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) and the Select Board, and noted printing and ballot deadlines in early August for warrant/article language. The committee agreed to perform targeted outreach — including to senior groups and tabling at community events — to ensure affected residents understand cost impacts.
Committee members emphasized that the existing bleachers are not ADA-compliant and that continued temporary use raises safety and equity concerns. "People have gotten hurt," a member said, urging prompt action rather than repeated delays. The DPW previously advised against immediate demolition as a separate project because it would cost more than incorporating demolition into the larger project bid, the committee said.
Members also asked staff to confirm updated tax-impact estimates per household: an earlier per-household figure cited during prior discussions may have changed as project estimates rose, and the committee asked the administration to circulate an updated calculation before town meetings.
The committee planned to appear before the CPC and the FinCom for recommendations and to coordinate with the Select Board before the July 30/31 meetings where capital priorities will be discussed.
