Maynard School Committee approves Feb. 2025 Quebec City trip for high school students

On financial access he said, “we will find a way,” describing fundraising and price adjustments the group can pursue and noting that adding more students would lower per-student cost.
The presentation also covered documentation: U.S. citizens traveling by bus may be able to use a birth certificate plus student ID for land crossings, but passports are required for travelers who must fly or who are foreign nationals. Mr. Trudeau described safety planning with the tour operator, including hotel hall monitors and experienced guides.
Following questions from committee members, a motion to approve the trip was made and seconded. The roll-call vote was recorded as: Alexis — yes; Maro — yes; Mary — yes; Natasha — yes. Hillary was disconnected and not present for the vote. Chair announced the motion carries.
The committee and staff agreed to follow up on financial access if specific families report need: district staff said there is “a little bit in the budget” this year and committee members asked administrators to identify any additional funding or fundraising pathways and to communicate clearly with families about insurance, refund policies and documentation requirements. The trip organizer and the district emphasized safety planning and contingency options in winter conditions.
The committee moved on to the next agenda item after the vote; staff will circulate final logistics and fundraising/financial-aid contacts as planning proceeds.
