Sylvan Lake City Council on June 11 authorized spending up to $425,000 for the 2025 street milling and paving program with vendor Cadillac Asphalt, with the City Manager and engineer to select the final streets and the City Manager and City Attorney to review the final agreement.
City Manager Martin told council Cadillac Asphalt’s quote returned higher than the city's budgeted amount; the current estimate was about $500,000 while the city budgeted $425,000. Martin said the company often budgets for unknowns and that he would work with Cadillac Asphalt to adjust price or scope so work can proceed, likely in the fall. "Every year, Cadillac Asphalt has come back under budget," Martin said, noting the company includes contingencies for unknowns discovered during milling.
Councilmember Zubrzycki asked about project timing; Martin estimated three to four years to complete milling and paving all streets under the program. Mayor Cowper described the annual paving program and said technology has improved the milling and paving process. The motion to approve the expenditure passed unanimously (Buchanan, Cowper, Zubrzycki).
