Oklahoma County Detention Center projects near-budget finish; payroll and off-site medical cited as variables
Summary
A detention-center representative told the BET the facility is projecting to finish the fiscal year within roughly $150,000 of projections, citing payroll and off-site medical bills as the primary potential variances; the center's headcount was discussed, including about 27 staff in the academy and roughly 54 medical positions.

A representative for the Oklahoma County Detention Center told the Budget Evaluation Team at its June meeting that the facility’s finances are stable following supplemental funds and that staff expect to be within about $150,000 of their projections by the end of the fiscal year.
"We are going to come in within about 150,000 give or take," the detention-center representative said, describing payroll and off-site medical expenses as the principal uncertainties. The representative thanked the committee for supplemental funds that helped stabilize operations.
Committee members asked for staffing figures and were told total headcount is about 347, which includes approximately 54 medical staff and about 27 people currently in the academy. The academy initial class count was discussed as starting with 35 approved seats and fewer attendees actually showing up; current academy numbers were reported as lower than originally approved.
The representative said that, aside from two remaining DHS bills expected next week, no large additional charges were anticipated for June and that unfilled positions helped temper payroll costs. The committee did not take funding action on the detention-center update; staff will continue to monitor revenue, expenditures and off-site medical bills and report back if trends change.
The BET asked for a more detailed month-end report after actual revenues post in county systems and for an updated projection next month if material variances appear.
No formal actions were approved related to supplemental funding during this update.
