Assistant superintendent urges community volunteers to share local history and read with students

At the Jan. 12 meeting of the Hinsdale/Peru Council on Aging, Aaron Robb, assistant superintendent of the Central Berkshire School System, asked community members to consider volunteering in local schools.
Robb said students benefit when older residents share firsthand accounts of area history, local industry experience, or serve as reading buddies in elementary schools. He said he hopes to establish such engagements at each of the district's elementary schools and encouraged interested volunteers to contact him at arobb@cvrsd.org.
The council received the proposal as part of its new-business presentations; members did not vote on a formal partnership or program at this meeting. Robb framed the idea as a way to strengthen intergenerational connections and provide students with local context beyond classroom materials.
The council will consider volunteer support and possible coordination with Amanda Raymond's upcoming seniors programming at a future meeting.
