Council on Aging allocates holiday donations to food pantry and notes $2,000 grant for seniors' craft series

The Hinsdale/Peru Council on Aging on Jan. 12 approved allocating Christmas-party donations to the Hinsdale Food Pantry and recorded a $2,000 grant to fund a new seniors program.
Jennifer Stark, the council's treasurer, presented an updated financial report and said donations from the board's holiday event totaled $163. The board voted to round the amount up to $200 and give it to the Hinsdale Food Pantry.
Stark also pointed out a new account line labeled "Berkshire County Community Foundation" showing $2,000 in grant funds awarded to Amanda Raymond to cover materials for a six-week creative and mindful crafts series for seniors. Raymond, a licensed mental health counselor who specializes in art, yoga, and meditation, told the council the sessions are free to attend and will meet on Mondays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the town hall community room, beginning Feb. 2. She said the materials are funded by Central Berkshire Funds and the Taconic Foundation, and that she will promote the program at the Jan. 15 luncheon.
The board did not create additional line items for other expenditures at the meeting. The council also deferred a newsletter item and added home-improvement assistance for seniors to a future agenda.
The meeting began at 5:30 PM and adjourned at 6:40 PM.
