The Three Oaks Village Council approved a series of routine actions and heard board and staff updates at its Aug. 14 regular meeting.
Land and community projects: Council approved a purchase agreement to acquire three lots used by the Community Garden from Three Oaks Township for $25,000 and discussed working with AEP on a potential easement; councilors suggested moving the garden south to reduce easement impacts. The purchase motion carried unanimously (moved by Jones; supported by Wojtczak).
Events and permits: Council supported approaching the Pokagon Fund for a grant to assist with costs for the 35th anniversary Prancer celebration scheduled Dec. 14–15, 2024. The council also approved support for Islay’s Barrel Beer Fest, including a Special Liquor License request and closure of Generations Drive on Oct. 12, 2024 (6:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.). The village website link for the Stroll Three Oaks event was updated to www.Strollthreeoaks.com (the site is independent of the Village).
Appointments and resignations: The council accepted the resignation of DDA member Julie Schaffer and appointed Pat Mullins (co-owner of Patellie’s) to the DDA. The council accepted Parks and Recreation Chair Lindsey Clements’s resignation and appointed Bryan Overley to that board.
Purchases and scheduling: Council approved buying 16 industrial trash cans at $529 each (total $8,464) and set Trick-or-Treat for Oct. 26, 2024, from 4–6 p.m. The Wightman sidewalk design bid is posted and closes Aug. 19, with a summary to be presented at the September meeting.
Staff and committee reports: Officer Jacob Klynstra delivered the police report, noting a recruit starting the academy and an ongoing fatal-crash investigation; manager Faulkner reported on utility and infrastructure items (including MDOT Ash Street sidewalk repairs after Labor Day), lead and copper sampling results due to the State by October 2024, and that Peerless Midwest media and filters were ordered and expected in two weeks. Members of the public raised concerns about Chamberlain Path improvements and potential parking impacts during public comment.
The council adjourned at 8:16 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
